What Is the Library?

DCatalog’s Virtual Library is an interactive, searchable PDF library that allows readers to browse, filter, and cross-search content across multiple editions from a single, centralized location. By organizing editions into categories, you replace static, standalone PDFs with a modern digital experience that helps users quickly find relevant information. This article explains what the Virtual Library is, how it works, and how to enable it, create categories, and assign editions.

Access My Library

After the Virtual Library feature is enabled on your account, the My Library section becomes available within My Editions in your dashboard.


Create Categories

Categories determine how your content is organized and filtered inside the Virtual Library.
To create categories follow the steps below! 
  1. Navigate to My Editions → My Library → Categories. 
  2. Select the template you'll be working on. 
  3. Enable the Virtual Library by selecting "Show Filter Page"
  4. Click New Category to create a category
  5. Save your changes!


Additional information

Show Category Tab – Enables a category navigation panel in the sidebar, displayed above the Table of Contents. This allows users to quickly view and jump between categories within the edition.





Pro tip
When the Virtual Library is enabled by selecting the “Show Filter Page” checkbox, the platform unlocks additional action icons that can be displayed at the bottom of each edition in your library. These options are designed to create a smoother and more flexible user experience.
Below are the available options you can enable:
  1. Enable Open Link Icon
    Allows users to open the selected edition in a new browser tab.
  2. Enable Copy Link Icon
    Provides a quick way to copy the edition’s direct link, making it easy to share with others.
  3. Enable Download Icon
    Allows users to download the PDF version of the selected edition.
  4. Enable Print Icon
    Enables users to quickly print the selected edition directly from the library.
These icons appear consistently across all editions displayed in the Virtual Library when enabled.





Assign Editions to Categories

Once your categories are set up, you can assign editions to control how they appear in the library.
To assign an edition go to My Editions → My Library  → Libraries.
  1. Select the edition you want to organize
  2. Assign it to the appropriate category

You can update or change category assignments at any time without re-uploading the PDF!

How to access my Virtual Library

From my editions

  1. Open the DCatalog Dashboard > My editions


  2. Click on the icon under "links"


    1. Copy the virtual Library link. 
          
     

Side Menu 

  1.  Go to My Library -> Categories 
  2. Press the magnifying glass icon and access your Library. 
 

Pro Tip: Clicking the Go To icon gives you quick access to the embed code, making it easy to add the edition to your website.





Within an edition

Once the library is configured, users can access it directly from within any edition.
To open the library:
  1. Click the library icon inside the viewer
  2. This opens the Virtual Library view, where users can browse and filter all assigned editions.
